Welcome to My Brain: Books, Bugs, Biohazards, Bad Leaders & so much more
Hi, I’m Selene and if you’ve ever asked, “What if a mantis celebrated May 17?” or “Can I explain statins using Cold War metaphors?”, you’re in the right place.
This blog is where I share updates, previews, and behind-the-scenes chaos from my many (and multiplying) book projects. I write across genres: children’s books, photo essays, satire, mystery, speculative fiction, and educational chaos disguised as humor.
Here’s what you’ll find here and why I’m building it all publicly:
🪳 Mina Series (Children’s Picture Books, English + Norwegian)
Mina is a curious praying mantis who explores movement, emotions, culture, and neurodivergent experiences. Written in side-by-side English and Norwegian, these books feature simple sentences and big heart.
Titles in progress:
Mina Løper / Mina Runs
Mina Sitter / Mina Sits
Mina Lytter / Mina Listens
Mina Leker / Mina Plays
📘 Modern Dick & Jane Reboot (But Better)
Simple, bilingual early readers that reflect real kids and real verbs. Diverse characters, balanced gender roles, and stories that reflect how children actually live, learn, and play.
📸 Resilient Roots (Photo + Essay Book)
A nonfiction blend of photography and personal narrative, documenting grief, memory, and survival through the lens of roadside memorials, cultural sites, and neurodivergent reflection.
Includes MMIW memorials and cultural landscapes from Alaska, Norway, and the American Southwest.
💉 Pharmageddon: Tales from the Script
A memoir-style collection of pharmacy chaos; what it’s like behind the counter, how healthcare workers survive the absurdity, and why most techs deserve combat pay.
😂 The Illustrated Pharmacology Primer
A funny, educational guide to medications; explained with wild metaphors and historical analogies.
Examples:
Statins as Cold War Eastern Bloc countries
Antibiotics as exhausted mercenaries
SSRIs as moody roommates trying their best
Perfect for students, nurses, techs, and nerds.
🪐 Cosmic Tinder: Space Missions Swipe Left
What if planets and probes had dating profiles?
This satirical mini-book imagines celestial bodies on Tinder.
Examples:
Mars: “Red flags? I am the flag.”
Voyager: “Still ghosting everyone since 1977.”
Science meets snark.
🪖 Dictator Flip Book: How to Become (or Spot) a Dictator
A double-sided satirical history guide.
One side is a snarky “how-to” manual based on real authoritarian tactics.
Flip the book and you get practical tips to recognize and resist those same power plays in real life.
Think: If Drunk History and a psych textbook had a weird, helpful baby.
🕵️♀️ Untitled Mystery/Thriller (In Progress)
A slow-burn thriller featuring a bioterror plot hidden in plain sight; through contamination terror attack. Based on pharmacy experience, dark web mechanics, and desiccants no one should be messing with.
Yes, it’s terrifying. And yes, it came from a very real “what if” moment.
🧠 Why a Blog?
Because social media is loud, publishing takes forever, and creativity isn’t always linear.
This blog is where I test, tease, reflect, and connect.
Some posts will read like journal entries. Others will be pitch pages. Some will be pure chaos gremlin rants. You’ve been warned (and welcomed).
💛 Want to Support the Madness?
Thank you for being here. Whether you're a fellow language nerd, neurodivergent creator, photography lover, or just here for the snarky metaphors; this space is for you.
And trust me… there are more book ideas coming.
